Message by CEPS’ Chairperson to mark ‘National Day and Independence Day’ of Seychelles

29th June 2015

Message by CEPS’ Chairperson to mark ‘National Day and Independence Day’ of Seychelles.

The Citizens Engagement Platform Seychelles, CEPS is calling on all citizens to come together in the spirit of national unity to celebrate our achievements as a Nation. CEPS is supportive of the decision made by the government to commemorate and observe the Independence day as our National Day.

29th of June is both a historic and momentous date for us as citizens of this great country. On that day, 39 years ago Seychelles became an independent Nation. The spirit of this celebration is not just about Seychelles officially becoming a free country but is also about celebrating the values and culture that our country was founded upon. As we observe this important event I call upon my fellow citizens to reflect on the ideals of democracy and liberty as enshrined in our constitution: that we are created equal; we are endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

As Seychellois we should continue to embody the values our country was built on. On this auspicious occasion, I would like to reaffirm CEPS’ commitment in engaging citizens in the process of Nation building.

I take this opportunity to wish all Seychellois happy Nation day. May we continue to live in peace and harmony, respecting the views and beliefs of everyone in our society.
