Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Expression and Access to Information for Africa to visit Seychelles

The Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Expression and Access to Information for Africa will be in Seychelles between the 19th – 23rd of January 2015. As Special Rapporteur, a major focus of her mandate is to encourage Member States to adopt Access to Information laws which conform to regional and international standards. During such visits, the Special Rapporteur meets all stakeholders and Civil Society forms and plays a very important role in this process. The Special Rapporteur would like to discuss the need to have an Access to Information Law in Seychelles, our involvement and contributions on an Access to Information draft Bill that would eventually come out of the process that is about to begin. Attached is the Draft Model Law For Africa On Access to Information. Access to information should not solely be limited to the media and Human rights bodies – it is a cross cutting issue that also concerns your organisation, your members and the people you work with as part of your mandate. . In view of this, the Citizens Engagement Platform Seychelles is organizing a meeting with the Special Rapporteur on Tuesday19th at 2pm, CARE House Victoria. Kindly confirm the name of the participant/s representing your organisation, by calling Ms Janice Henry on 4325552 or emailing her on [email protected] by Wednesday 14th of January 2015.
